The World’s Most Magical Celebration: Disney World Turns 50!

On October 1, 1971 Disney World opened its gates to guests from all over the world. 50 years later and it’s still a magical place for kids aged 1-100! Over the next 18 months, guests can discover classic favorites as well as new adventures across The Most Magical Place on Earth – Walt Disney Resort.

At the Magic Kingdom, Mickey and his friends return to greet guests, which was unfortunately suspended due to the pandemic. In addition, new parades are kicking off with all the fun that you missed in the last year, or maybe over the last 50 years! In the middle of it all is the newly decorated Cinderella’s Castle, which welcomes guests to dream big!

Over at the Animal Kingdom Park, there’s rare animals, wild entertainment and Pandora-The World of Avatar to anchor your day of fun. With fabulous flotillas and a new Kitetails show featuring high-flying version of beloved Disney characters, there’s a lot to love about this year’s celebration.

Heading over to Hollywood Studios, we see the adventure begin with some of your favorite stories including new friends! The Adventure begins with those at Galaxy’s Edge, the Star Wars themed area. You’ll transport to the Star Wars galaxy where you can meet Chewbacca or Rey while they are fighting the Empire. It doesn’t end there either because if embracing darkness is what makes your heart beat faster…Kylo Ren awaits just outside.

While you are there, don’t forget to visit Woody and his friends at Toy Story Land, which makes you feel young again while you picture yourself as one of Andy’s favorite toys! Ride the Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster and spin like a top with those wacky aliens on Alien Spinning Saucers.

Since it’s the 50th Anniversary of the Magic Kingdom, we would be remiss if we didn’t share the new ride that just opened at Hollywood Studios, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! This is the first ride at ANY Disney park that features Mickey, Minnie and their friends!

Finally, over at Epcot, we are excited about meeting Remy at his new adventure, where you can visit his famous kitchen!

After shrinking down to Remy’s size, you join him on a exciting journey through the kitchen in Ratatouille, where “life is an adventure when you are small!” This ride opened October 1st, and will be part of the new Lightning Lanes feature of Genie+ on October 18th. Be on the lookout for a new post about how to skip the line and access this amazing new attraction!
